With COVID-19 restricting international travel, a majority of people missed out on a summer vacation in 2020. People are itching for a trip, but with the way things are going, us Americans probably won’t be going anywhere far anytime soon. Fortunately, a number of restaurants and bars are getting creative and bringing the vacations to us in LA. A new pop-up concept, De Buena Planta, in Venice is a great example.
The Butcher’s Daughter opened De Buena Planta across the street from its restaurant on trendy Abbot Kinney Boulevard. Located in a former vacant parking lot, De Buena Planta brings a bright and festive vibe that could’ve been found in Tulum, Mexico. You can tell they put in a lot of effort in creating this oasis.
De Buena Planta translates into “good plant”, which makes sense. The outdoor space is impressively decorated with a lot of tropical plants. The pop-up also serves plant-based Mexican food, organic margaritas, and mezcals. I ordered the Watermelon Mezcalita, which had a little kick and was super refreshing and perfect for a hot day. We also got the chips and guacamole as a snack and the guac was very tasty.
If you’re looking for a quick escape, check out De Buena Planta. It’s only open for a limited time until January, so go as soon as you can!

Deeelizious Tips:
– It’s walk-ins only. The line to get in starts forming even before they open. If you want to have a good chance at being one of the first to get a seat, get there before 4 PM.
– It’s not pet friendly. Dogs aren’t allowed in.
– Service was pretty attentive as our server came around often and checked on us for refills.
– There was a time limit for tables as we were told by the host that we had about an hour and half. This is probably to allow other guests to get seated.
– Unfortunately since it is a pop up, they do not have a restroom. You have to walk across the street to The Butcher’s Daughter to use the restroom.
