Cara Hotel is the latest trendy boutique hotel to open in Los Angeles. Tucked away at the edge of Los Feliz, right below Griffith Park and next to Thai Town and Hollywood, you’ll find a serene oasis that’ll make you feel like you’ve been whisked away to Morocco. Cara believes that “simple gestures of kindness and sincere care create lasting memories” which is fitting for its name, Gaelic for “friend”.
The 60 room hotel was once a motel built around the 1950s. It took over 18 months to revamp it into a beautiful establishment. When you enter through the chic lobby, you’ll be in awe once you catch a glimpse of Cara‘s picturesque open air courtyard. A shallow blue pool sits in the middle and is surrounded by palm trees and 100 year old olive trees.
Cara utilizes cream colored and sandstone palettes throughout its establishment, which really sets the mood. Even though Cara is located in a very busy area of town, the hotel is very quiet and peaceful. You can’t help but feel relaxed in this calm space.
My boyfriend and I had a romantic anniversary dinner at the restaurant inside Cara within days of its grand opening. To start, we were given a welcome appetizer of radishes from the chef. For our meal, we ordered the smoked trout salad, handmade smoked spaghetti, and the ribeye. It was the perfect amount of food for two people. We also got a couple of their house special cocktails. Overall, the food was good, but wasn’t mind-blowing. The trout salad tasted fresh and refreshing with grapefruit and avocado in its mix. The spaghetti was cooked al dente, but a little salty for me. The ribeye was tender and delicious, topped with pearl onions.
Cara‘s elegance is incomparable to other patios and courtyards found in LA. There was no music played during the night, which helped promote a quiet ambiance. Even the waitresses spoke with a soft tone. I would highly recommend the restaurant for an intimate outing with friends or a romantic dinner with your significant other. And if you’re looking for a true escape, be sure to book a hotel room.

Deeelizious Tips
- At the time of this blog piece, Cara was only open for dinner
- Make sure to request a table by the “pool”. The restaurant also has tables at the front of the hotel which is next to a busy street so you won’t be experiencing the same kind of ambience as you would get in the private courtyard.
- The cocktail drinks are very good! I had the “Late Check-Out” and my boyfriend had an “Old Fashioned”.
