There are a lot of great burger spots in Los Angeles and one of the better ones in the city is a small hole-in-the-wall in Venice, fittingly named The Win-Dow. Located near other popular eateries on hip Rose Avenue, the takeaway only restaurant is literally just two windows on the side of steakhouse American Beauty.
The Win-Dow’s menu is very simple like In-N-Out’s. For burgers, there’s only three options: Cheeseburger, Double Cheeseburger, or Beauty Burger (an Impossible Burger) for vegetarians. There’s also a fried chicken sandwich and kale salad, but why even bother if you’re not going to enjoy one of LA’s “must-try” burgers?
The Win-Dow’s burgers are hand formed, smashed style, and grilled with onions. They all come topped with American cheese, pickles, and special house sauce (most likely thousand island).
I ordered the cheeseburger and a side of fries. The first bite was super juicy. Since it’s part of a steakhouse, I wouldn’t be surprised that The Win-Dow is using high quality Angus beef for its burgers. The grilled onions added a caramelized flavor and the soft potato bun was a good compliment. Every simple ingredient worked well together. The fries was cooked crispy and golden brown. They were well salted and kinda reminded me a little bit of McDonad’s fries, which I love.
The burger was delicious and I could taste what the hype was about. But what made it better was its price. A lot of trendy burger restaurants in LA are charging $8-$15, but The Win-Dow’s prices start at $3.95. It’s a great deal for the quality meal you’re getting. If you’re ever in West LA and are looking for an alternative to In-N-Out, check out The Win-Dow.
